Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering the Manager of Software Development will create a software development strategy that will achieve the organizations product roadmap for digital video system products, and lead a team of software developers in the execution of that strategy.  

Our future team member will hold a Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combined with a minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience, at least three (3) of which involved the management of other development resources, with a focus on video/audio processing, encoding, or transcoding products.   

In addition to the qualifications above and below we are looking for a strong leader with superior communication and interpersonal skills capable of “thinking outside the box”, developing and executing strategies. 

The successful candidate will achieve the above mandate through the following duties: 

  • Lead, manage, and mentor internal software team;
  • Engage, delegate, assign and monitor work delegated to third party consultants; 
  • Develop, implement and execute the overall software development strategy and monitor results through the measurement of key performance indicators and deliverables;
  • Develop, implement, educate and continually enhance policies and procedures to ensure consistent successful delivery of projects;
  • Responsible for the documentation of software architecture;
  • Participate in peer review of code;
  • Provide technical guidance to Engineering and Product Management;
  • Conduct new product/technology investigations and project risk mitigation; 
  • Responsible for effort estimation, strategic planning, and resource allocation;
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with established workplace policies and procedures including but not limited to ISO, Health and Safety; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Our future team member will have advanced working knowledge of the following:

  • Implementing image/video and audio processing algorithms;
  • Broadcast standards (DVB, ATSC, ISDB etc.);
  • Media codecs such as MPEG2, H.264, HEVC, AAC, AC3, MPEG Audio;
  • Expert level C/C++ development skills;
  • MPEG2 TS and multiplexing/de-multiplexing;
  • Developing real time, multi-threaded applications;
  • Linux operating system;

Working knowledge of the following would be considered assets for success in the role: 

  • Multimedia frameworks such as FFMpeg and GStreamer;
  • GPU acceleration and APIs (Intel MSS, OpenCL, CUDA);
  • Python, Java, and PHP;
  • Writing device drivers in Linux;
  • CAS/DRM systems (DTCP, CI+, Simulcrypt, Pro:I, Verimatrix etc.);
  • Video quality metrics (PSNR, SSIM, Subjective testing etc.);
  • TCP/IP, UDP, socket programming; and
  • Streaming protocols (RTP, RTSP, RTMP, HLS, MPEG-DASH).
