Cost Accountant

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) the Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and maintaining accurate and reliable count and cost information on all aspects of inventory.


The above mandate will be achieved through the following duties which outline, but do not limit, the regular position requirements:

  • Maintain accurate material costs in ERP systems using multiple costing methods, including weighted average cost and standard cost;
  • Report on variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances and foreign exchange;
  • Prepare sales volume and margin reports by product group and part number;
  • Assist in indirect cost allocation for Products;
  • Validate cost of goods sold as part of month end close;
  • Assist in tracking direct and indirect costs incurred and costs remaining to be spent for projects;
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts with Operations and Production  to ensure accuracy and investigate and resolve counting variances;
  • Account and report on Production activity;
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring appropriate financial policies and controls for the organization;
  • Other duties as assigned.


The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • University Degree in Accounting or related field;
  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA) or working towards;
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing or distribution environment;
  • Proficient with various computer programs including, Microsoft Word, Excel (advanced) and Outlook;
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics AX;
  • Excellent organizational, time management, analytical and follow-up skills;
  • Hands on with the ability to manage multiple time sensitive tasks/projects simultaneously and meet deadlines;  
  • Superior communication skills both oral and written, to present and exchange technical/complex information to audiences with varying financial expertise;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills capable of interacting with all levels of associates both internal and external to the organization;
  • Ability to make recommendations on key financial and operating decisions;
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.


  •  This position may require infrequent travel within North America
